Sanctions for Conduct Violations

Students found in violation of The Student Code of Conduct are subject to sanctions set by the Director of Housing, Campus Safety and or the Associate Vice President/Dean of Student Success.  Sanctions range from warnings, fines and community service to Judicial Board hearings that can result in suspension or expulsion. Each case will be reviewed by the appropriate offices and handled accordingly. Sanctions are based on the violation's level and repeat offenses.  

Sanctions may include: 

  1. Written Warning: An official statement to the student advising them that a violation has occurred, and that continuation of such conduct may result in further disciplinary action 

  1. Loss Of Privileges: Denial of certain privileges such as on campus parking, participation in campus organizations, attendance at campus events, visitation privileges, or use of campus facilities 

  1. Fines: a monetary amount added to a student's billing statement 

  1. Community Service Hours: The assignment of labor or task in lieu of fines 

  1. Restitution: A prescribed action to reimburse by transfer of property or service 

  1. Attendance at Meetings or Seminars or completion of Education Modules: Mandatory attendance at workshops or events of an educational nature at the expense of the student 

  1. Probation: This condition encumbers the student’s good standing in the University for a stated period and may result in the student being unable to participate in athletics, to hold an office, or to be a representative of the University. 

  1. Hold on Grades or Registration for Classes: The student may not receive class grades or register for classes until there has been compliance with other sanctions or conditions. 

  1. Suspension From the Residence Halls: The student will be removed from university housing and banned from visiting the residence halls but may continue taking classes. 

  1. Suspension From the University: The student will be forced to withdraw from the University and vacate the campus for a determined period. The student has the right to petition for readmission at the conclusion of the defined period. 

  1. Expulsion: The student is dismissed from the University for an unspecified time. 

  1. Administrative Withdrawal: A student may be withdrawn from the University by the President or Provost when that student exhibits behavior that may be disruptive to the educational process of the University or is a danger to self, others, or property. 

  1. Notification of Parents (if dependent student): Limestone University reserves the right to notify parents or legal guardians of a student’s behavior or of any situation of which the University feels the parents should be informed. 

  1. Notification of Athletic Department: Limestone University reserves the right to notify the Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletes of a student’s behavior of any situation. 

  1. Other actions that are appropriate and approved by the Vice President/Dean of Student Success, Judicial Hearing Board or University President. 

Specific Sanctions: 

Prohibited Items in Residence Halls  

Sanction: Removal of the item, referral to the director of housing, fines. Legal items prohibited in the residence halls that are removed may be collected at the end of the semester when the student checks out of housing. 

  • Pets*- Pets are not allowed in the residence halls unless pre-approved by the Office of Equity and Inclusion AND housing. The first offence of an unauthorized animal will result in an automatic $100 fine. Second offence is a $250 fine and 3rd office will result in the immediate removal from campus housing with no refund.  
  • Drugs*- Marijuana is NOT legal in the state of South Carolina. Limestone is a Tobacco free campus. The use of any illegal drugs or tobacco products is prohibited. Students found in violation of this are at risk of fines, probation, or suspension.  
  • Alcohol* - Limestone University is a dry campus. Students found in possession of any alcohol containers (boxes, bottles, cans etc.) full or empty will be found in violation of the Alcohol policy and be subject to sanctions that could result in probation or suspension.  
  • Electric scooters/conveyances*- E-bikes of any kind are not permitted in any Limestone University Buildings

Illegal prohibited items will be handled by campus safety. Any Illegal item found will be stored in evidence by campus safety. 

 

Damage to campus property or property of others 

Sanction: Ticket and Fines issued by Campus Safety. Fine will vary depending on damage. ines will be added to the students' balance and expected to be paid immediately. 

 

Parking Violations 

Sanction: Ticket and Fines issued by Campus Safety. Fines will be added to the students' balance and expected to be paid immediately.  

 

Violation Levels 

Level One Violations: (noise, visitation and other housing violations)  

Violations that impact You as an individual and the community. 

Sanction:  

  • Written Letter and meeting with Associate Vice President/Dean of Student Success.  

  • Educational Modules 

  • Fines 

  • Community Service Hours 

 

Level Two Violation: (second violation notice or drug, alcohol, threat to others, damage to property)  

Violations that impact another student or small group of students directly. 

Sanction: 

  • Meeting with Associate Vice President/Dean of Student Success

  • Fines, Educational Modules, Community Service Hours 

  • Probation/ notification to athletics and other affiliated groups 

 

Level Three Violation: (2nd Drug or Alcohol Violation or serious violation including weapons, violence, assault) 

Violations that impact you, and the community at large, in a major way. Violations that require the use of the Threat Assessment Team.  

Sanction:  

  • Required Judicial Board Hearing 

  • Educational Modules 

  • Probation 

  • Suspension  

  • Expulsion  

 

Sanctions are subject to change depending on severity and if multiple violations happen at one time. Students must know and abide by all the standards, rules and regulations published in, but not restricted to, the Student Handbook and the Academic Catalog. Students who fail or refuse to comply with these standards will be subject to penalties that may include permanent dismissal from the University.
